Mentoring

I offer individual and small group mentoring for therapists wishing to learn or deepen their skills as a therapist. Please email me with any inquiries.

Teaching

I teach short on-line courses on specific topics.

Courses have limited enrolment, in an effort to ensure the opportunity for everyone to engage and ask question.

Course topics are illustrated with clips from my clinical work. For this reason, they are not recorded and made available outside of the course time.

2025 Courses:

The Therapist’s Use of Self in Relationship Therapy (October 27 & 28 12:00 – 3:00)

It has been asserted that “the qualities and capabilities of the person offering the treatment are more important than the treatment itself” (Sprenkle et al., 2009, p.4). While the research regarding this assertion is somewhat muddy, there is no question that the way therapists presents themselves matters. In this course we will look at two concepts elemental to building confidence in how one uses oneself as a therapist – the notion of balancing stress and safety, and the idea of the therapist as a participant observer. This will be followed by an elaboration of ways to be oneself primarily spontaneously (e.g. humor, metaphor, amplification) as well as more deliberately (e.g. self-disclosure, taking sides, ‘joining through the truth’ and sustaining). Concepts will be demonstrated with footage of therapy sessions from the instructor.
